Carte de visite of Corporal George H. Barrett, Third Michigan Cavalry, Co. I. Barrett, a resident of Kent County, Michigan, was 21 years old when he enlisted as a private on September 12, 1861, at Grand rapids, Michigan. Barrett survived the war. The photograph is part of a group of images collected by Orville Gillett of the Third Michigan Cavalry which was stationed at De Valls Bluff, Prairie County, Arkansas, the winter of 1864-1865. The Third Michigan Cavalry was part of the Union Army during the War Between the States or Civil War.
